Retrofits for Ontario’s Homes

retrofitDavid Hahn, President of the Wintergreen Co-op, was talking to Mike Schreiner last week and they agreed that we needed urgently to retrofit much of Ontario’s old poorly insulated housing stock so that occupants wouldn’t be hit by soaring heating bills as prices of energy inevitably rise. Schreiner made the connection to the waste of money that the Wynne government is headed for by refurbishing Darlington reactors. He suggested that the savings from importing cheaper hydro from Quebec could be put to much better use, financing the costs of improving the thermal envelopes of thousand of low income homes that are wastefully leaking heat into the night and costing unbearable heating bills for the occupants.
